Public Interest Registry Seeks Board Members To Lead Its New Retail Entity

RESTON, Va., June 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Public Interest Registry – the not-for-profit operator of the .org domain – today announced it is accepting nominations from exceptional leaders to join the board of directors of its new domain name retail entity. The new subsidiary company, temporarily named PIR-Newco, will be a registrar for .ngo and .ong – soon-to-be-launched top-level domains intended exclusively for non-governmental organisations across the globe.

Today through August 1, 2014, interested candidates may submit their expression of interest to serve in one of the three open positions on the PIR-Newco board. In this role, directors are expected to help the new nonprofit corporation flourish in a competitive environment, provide Internet namespace guidance to all stakeholders, and uphold Public Interest Registry's commitment to promoting an open and responsible Internet.

As the retail arm of Public Interest Registry, PIR-Newco's primary focus will be the registration of .ngo and .ong, and the sale of value-added services with an emphasis on serving customers in the global south. The company will also act as an ICANN accredited registrar for .org – the world's third largest top-level domain – and four internationalized domain names which translate to "organisation" or "institution" in non-Latin-based scripts.

PIR-Newco's board members will serve a three-year term beginning in fall 2014. Board members must commit to attending all board meetings and gatherings, participating in regular conference calls, and engaging in daily email correspondence. The time commitment for in-person meetings is approximately 15 days per year, plus travel time..

Eligible candidates should have prior board experience and be familiar with nonprofit governance and financial considerations. Desired qualifications include significant business acumen, demonstrated experience with the Internet namespace industry, and established understanding of and experience with the global NGO business. Board members should have exemplary communication skills, be collaborative and consensus building in their approach, and have an affinity with the values of Public Interest Registry.
