Traditional white fillings (composites) are brittle and can chip and fracture. Adhesives used with these white fillings degrade and leak over time resulting in microleakage in the gap between the tooth and the filling material. Dentists say that the bioactive material seems to melt into the tooth. The result is a seal between the tooth and the filling that protects the remaining tooth structure from further decay.
