VERO BEACH, Fla., May 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- QOL Medical, LLC announced today they are partnering with the GI Health Foundation, along with renowned gastroenterologist William D. Chey, MD, to host their first investigative health series event titled, "Could It Be CSID – Is CSID an Under-Recognized Patient Population with Unresolved IBS-D Symptoms?" The evening event – for medical professionals only – will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in San Diego, California. For those who will be attending Digestive Disease Week (DDW) and have an interest in attending the event, please go to www.coulditbecsidevent.com.
"We are excited to host this event since Dr. Chey will be reviewing recent data that suggests how CSID patients may be an overlooked population with unresolved GI symptoms in adults previously diagnosed with IBS-D who have been treated unsuccessfully," says Weng Tao, MD, Ph.D., Chief Science Officer for QOL Medical, LLC.
People with Congenital Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID) are unable to properly digest sucrose (table sugar), which is found in foods like ice cream, apples, cake, and corn. In adolescents and adults, CSID has been characterized by symptoms of chronic abdominal pain, gas, loose stools, bloating, and chronic diarrhea. In infants, CSID classically presents as explosive watery diarrhea, failure to thrive, diaper rash, irritability, and acidic stools.
Congenital Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID) is an inherited disorder. Sucrase and isomaltase are required to break down and absorb carbohydrates like table sugar (sucrose) and other sugars from starches present in foods like potatoes and baked goods. If you have CSID, your body cannot digest sugar and starches well, a condition which can cause chronic diarrhea, gas, bloating, and abdominal pain after you eat foods with sugar and/or starches such as bread, cookies, crackers, and potatoes.
