Qualcomm announces new connected health collaborations at Connect 2014

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Life, Inc., is collaborating with ResMed (NYSE: RMD), King's Daughters Medical Center and CareCentrix to develop next-generation connected health solutions powered by Qualcomm Life's transformational 2net™ and HealthyCircles™ platforms, enabling continuous care, informed interventions and better management of at-risk populations. The announcement was part of Qualcomm Life's annual Connect 2014 conference taking place on August 11-12, 2014 in San Diego, California.

By integrating with Qualcomm Life's scalable solutions, these companies now have access to one of the world's largest open and interoperable mHealth ecosystems of medical device, applications and service companies in the health care industry. By liberating vital health and biometric data, Qualcomm Life is assisting these companies with the clinical context and exception-based management tools to efficiently enable care team coordination for transitional care and chronic care management.

ResMed, a leader in innovative medical equipment for sleep-disordered breathing and other respiratory disorders, is using Qualcomm Life's technology to streamline transitions of care from the hospital and into the home. Of note, ResMed is integrating the 2net Hub and Platform with its Astral™ 100 and Astral 150 life support ventilators to seamlessly capture and transfer near real-time biometric data to the HealthyCircles care coordination platform, which allows care teams to effectively monitor and manage patients by exception. Additionally, ResMed is using HealthyCircles in combination with its continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device to enable hospitals and care providers to closely monitor patients to prevent hospital readmissions.

Focused on patients with heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, KDMC's integrated care coordination and management services will increase touch points in the rural community and link community-based providers through the 2net and HealthyCircles Platforms.
