QuEra Computing Collaborates with HPE to Bring Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing to On-Premises HPC Environments

QuEra and HPE will enable organization access to quantum computing capabilities on-premises by integrating neutral-atom fault-tolerant systems with the HPE Cray supercomputing platform.

BOSTON, Sept. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- QuEra Computing, the leader in neutral-atom quantum computing, today announced a collaboration with HPE to integrate neutral-atom, fault-tolerant quantum computing with on-premise high-performance computing (HPC) environments powered by the HPE Cray supercomputing platform. The collaboration gives HPC centers, national laboratories, and enterprises a path to bring QuEra's frontier systems into new supercomputing infrastructure.

Useful fault-tolerant quantum computing will run alongside classical supercomputing in hybrid workflows where HPC handles large-scale classical computation and the quantum system tackles selected subproblems that are impractical or impossible to solve classically. Organizations that already operate large classical resources have new choices in how they bring quantum computing into their workflows — through the cloud, on-premise, or a combination of the two. The combined approach aligns with US national priorities, such as Genesis Mission, a historic national initiative led by the U.S. Department of Energy, which is building the world's most powerful integrated science discovery platform. By uniting government, industry, academia, and philanthropy, it is accelerating breakthroughs in energy, scientific discovery, and national security through a new platform that combines AI, supercomputing, quantum systems, and advanced scientific instruments.

QuEra and HPE are pursuing integrated testbeds, hybrid algorithm co-design, software interoperability, and system-level performance benchmarking, targeting deployment alongside the HPE Cray supercomputing platform. HPE Cray supercomputing provides an industry-leading HPC foundation for hybrid quantum-classical workflows, enabling QuEra's fault-tolerant systems to be tightly integrated with a customer's most demanding workloads.

QuEra has worked with HPE since 2025. At HPE Discover Las Vegas 2026, HPE showcased magic-state, featuring QuEra to demonstrate the company's vision for hybrid quantum-classical computing.

Two Complementary Paths to Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing

With this announcement, QuEra now offers two synergistic routes to its fault-tolerant systems, offering organizations a choice to take one or both. For example, organizations will be able to deploying on-premises for sovereign or tightly coupled workloads while drawing on the cloud for elastic simulation and burst capacity.

• On-premises deployment, through HPE. For organizations that need a system inside their own environment, whether for sovereignty or data residency needs, or to tightly couple into existing workflows, the HPE collaboration provides a path to integrate QuEra's systems with the HPE Cray supercomputing platform, including plans for a potential gigaquop system.
• Cloud access, through a major Cloud provider. Libra, QuEra's first fault-tolerant quantum computer, is an over 256 logical qubit, megaquop-class system designed to perform on the order of one million reliable logical operations, targeted for availability on the cloud in 2028, with the gigaquop system to follow.

In practice, the two paths form a single journey. An organization might begin in the cloud to build applications and expertise today, then have HPE build an on-premises system to safeguard data and sovereignty. Equally, a customer committing to an on-premises deployment can run production workloads on the cloud in the interim until its own system is installed and continue drawing on cloud capacity afterward whenever demand exceeds what sits in its data center.
