INDIANAPOLIS and MUMBAI, June 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Radix, a leading new gTLD (generic Top Level Domain) registry, announced today that .PRESS Domains partnered with the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) to mark May 2016, as World Press Freedom Month.
As a part of this campaign, .PRESS Domains contributed $2 from every domain registration to support SPJ's work towards empowering and protecting journalism. The Press Freedom Month campaign generated 2 million+ impressions globally and resulted in over 3000+ domain registrations.
"SPJ is happy to partner with Radix in celebrating the fundamental principles of press freedom throughout the entire month of May," said Paul Fletcher, SPJ national president. "It is our hope that through this partnership we can help educate others about the importance of defending journalists from attacks on their independence, raise awareness about the state of press freedom throughout the world and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Press freedom is so important, not only in the United States, but around the world. We appreciate Radix partnering with journalism organizations to help protect journalists' rights."
"Journalists today are adopting online platforms to bring out their stories across geographic and political barriers in more engaging formats. After the huge success of our Press Freedom Month campaign in 2015, we wanted to help create a larger fund this year. Our partnership with SPJ goes a long way to achieve that objective," said Parag Barhate, Category Manager for .PRESS at Radix.
Every year, 3rd May is commemorated as World Press Freedom Day. It recognizes the numerous sacrifices made by journalists in their line of work to bring out stories often deemed too uncomfortable to tell.
