Ranchos installs water conservation at Lenny Brewster Sports Center
APPLE VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Apple Valley Ranchos Water Company (Ranchos) announced the completion of its irrigation retrofit for Lenny Brewster Sports Center (Brewster Park) in an effort to help the Town of Apple Valley conserve water.
The retrofit includes new irrigation timers, modular controllers and wireless weather stations. According to Ranchos Vice-President and General Manager, Scott Weldy, the weather station ensures the fields are watered only as needed and only under ideal watering conditions.
"If the ground is damp or if the wind is blowing hard, the weather station will not call for watering, but rather, will wait for more optimum conditions" said Weldy. This new system is more sophisticated than the previous sprinkler system and should allow for significant water consumption savings.
"We're very proud that the customers of Apple Valley Ranchos Water Company lead the entire Victor Valley in water conservation and this is just another opportunity for us to actively participate", says Norma Armenta, Apple Valley Ranchos Water's Conservation Representative.
Brewster Park is considered the premier location for sporting events in the High Desert. Its plush green fields host a variety of youth and adult sporting events throughout the week and walkers routinely enjoy the .8 mile walk around the perimeter of the park. The 39 acres of sporting fields and amenities presents quite a water conservation challenge.
