RateZip Deposit/Mortgage Rates is a live rate service that lets ChatGPT answer questions about current US savings account, certificate of deposit (CD), mortgage, and home equity line of credit (HELOC) rates, with the source and observation time attached to every figure. To RateZip's knowledge, it is the first US-focused Model Context Protocol (MCP) service dedicated to consumer deposit-rate comparison.

What can I ask it?

Questions such as "What's the best high-yield savings account rate right now?", "What are current 30-year mortgage rates?", or "Is my loan amount conforming or jumbo?" return interactive rate cards inside ChatGPT.  These cards are sortable, timestamped, and each carry a link to the institution that published the rate. Coverage spans high-yield savings accounts, certificates of deposit, mortgage rates and annual percentage rates (APRs) including conforming and jumbo, home equity loans, and HELOCs.  

Why is this different from asking an AI chatbot about rates?

A chatbot answering from training data guesses at rates that may be months stale. RateZip Deposit/Mortgage Rates returns the rate an institution currently publishes, observed at a stated moment, with any conditions attached. Enter a balance and it resolves the account's actual balance tier, showing the annual percentage yield (APY) a saver would really earn rather than a headline rate that applies only above a threshold.

How large is the gap between the best and average savings rates?

According to RateZip's rate index, as of August 26, 2026, a handful of outlier banks still pay around 4.00% APY — more than ten times the FDIC national average of 0.38%.
