Ravenna Man Arrested by ATF Task Force

Individual Charged with Federal Firearms Violation

RAVENNA, Ohio, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Frank Mosier, 24, was arrested yesterday and charged with violating federal firearms laws.  Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) special agents and Ravenna City Police Department detectives assigned to the ATF Task Force arrested Mosier without incident in Ravenna. The criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court charges Mosier as a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm in violation of federal law.

The criminal complaint alleges the ATF Task Force began the investigation in early July after receiving information that Mosier was illegally possessing firearms.  The investigation was led by a Ravenna City Police detective assigned to the ATF Task Force.  Working in an undercover capacity, the detective posed as a firearms trafficker.  The detective met with Mosier at his apartment and purchased a rifle from Mosier for $100. During the firearms transaction, Mosier told the detective he could obtain additional firearms including a fully automatic weapon.  He said he also had a source for grenades and indicated he would have heroin for sale later in the day.  

Today, Mosier appeared in U.S. District Court for his preliminary examination and was ordered detained with no bond by U.S. Magistrate Judge George J. Limbert. Mosier will remain in federal custody.

A criminal complaint is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt.  A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
