However, in 2009-2010 with the downturn in the economy, it became clear that the company needed to do more to ensure employee morale and passion would be sustained, even as their personal lives or those close to them were being affected by the financial crisis.  As a result, Zumasys refocused itself on employee satisfaction and retention and launched the Zumasys International Travel Incentive, which pays team members to travel outside of North America.

Under the program, Zumasys employees have traveled to Australia, Bali, China, Italy, London, Paris, Peru and Thailand.  Each quarter another international destination is visited by a Zumasys employee.  The goal of the program is to rejuvenate and refresh the traveler, and to give them the unique experience of engaging with another culture and the opportunity to see a piece of the greater world they live in. The result since the launch is a substantial increase in productivity, revenue, and most importantly employee retention.

About the Best Places to Work Program

To be considered for participation in the Best Places to Work in Orange County, companies had to be a for-profit, not-for-profit business or government entity; be a publicly or privately held business; have a facility in Orange County; have at least 15 employees in Orange County; and be in business a minimum of 1 year. The actual rankings will be published in the Orange County Business Journal's special report on the Best Places to Work in the October 29, 2012, issue of the Orange County Business Journal.  Companies from across the county entered the two-part survey process to determine the Best Places to Work in Orange County. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final rankings. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Orange County, analyzed the data and determined the final rankings.
