Record Set for Multi-Industry Compliance Gathering
Compliance & Ethics Institute surpasses 1,000 Attendees
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The annual meeting of the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics—the Compliance and Ethics Institute—recently surpassed the 1,000 registered attendee mark.
The Compliance and Ethics Institute, scheduled for Oct. 14-17, is now expected to be the largest CEI to date.
"These numbers clearly demonstrate that the content, networking, and cost of the CEI are attractive to compliance professionals. The Compliance and Ethics Institute is the preferred gathering place," said Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics CEO Roy Snell. "Governments worldwide have recognized the importance of effective compliance and ethics programs in preventing, detecting, and correcting wrong doing. The growth of the profession and this meeting reflects the rising investment in compliance programs and the people charged with leading them."
This year's program is approximately 30 percent larger in paid attendees than last year's, which also grew by more than 20 percent. "It's clear that despite the economy, businesses globally sees the value in increasing their investment in compliance and ethics," said Snell.
Attendees of the Compliance and Ethics Institute come from the United States and sixteen countries across the globe. Attendees can choose from 90 sessions and more than 130 speakers, ensuring that they get the knowledge needed to improve the effectiveness of their programs. In addition, the program has built-in networking and mentoring opportunities.
"It's important to note that networking and mentoring are critical in the compliance arena," said Snell. "Compliance professionals are encouraged by the government to share and learn from industry best practices. That doesn't just come from a presentation. It comes from having a network of peers to draw learning from."
In-depth content from recognized experts
Attendees can gain valuable insight through four general sessions and in-depth exploration of six tracks, including risk, ethics, case studies, multinational/international, compliance hot topics, and advanced discussion groups. Program participants can follow one track or move between them.
Pulitzer Prize winner James B. Stewart is scheduled to address Ethics, Leadership and Temptation in the Workplace, drawing from his book "Tangled Webs: How False Statements are Undermining America: From Martha Stewart to Bernie Madoff."
An unconventional session is scheduled to explore why rule breakers are so popular in entertainment. Speakers include Jon Turteltaub, director of the "National Treasure" movies and the upcoming film "Last Vegas;" Jay Kogen, whose long and successful TV career includes shows such as "The Simpsons" and "Happily Divorced," and Chris Bohjalian, author of the New York Times bestseller "The Sandcastle Girls," and "Midwives," an Oprah's book club selection.
