Recycling Efforts Prevent Over 19 Million Pounds Of Waste From Entering The Landfill During National Competition

PHILADELPHIA, July 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The results are in for RecycleMania 2012 and many college campuses are in the green. ARAMARK, one of the nation's leading foodservice and facility management providers, is proud to announce that its campus partners recycled over 19 million pounds of waste during RecycleMania 2012, a competition among colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada to promote sustainability.

Of the 605 higher education institutions that participated in RecycleMania 2012, over 20 percent were ARAMARK partners. By providing its campus partners with valuable resources and tools ARAMARK supports campus efforts to promote sustainability and waste prevention.

RecycleMania is a national competition among colleges and universities that provides campuses with proactive waste reduction activities. During an 8-week period each spring, participating campuses went head-to-head in various recycling contests, all with the goal of reducing or eliminating waste.

According to RecycleMania results, ARAMARK campus partners recycled over 19 million pounds of waste during RecycleMania which is comparable to removing 7,891 cars from the road and its totals rivaled the consumption savings of approximately 3,524 households.

Each year, ARAMARK partners with over 600 North American schools to develop innovative environmental stewardship programs that address the areas of sustainable food, responsible procurement, green buildings, energy and water conservation, waste stream management, and transportation.
