Renowned Harvard Law Prof. Laurence Tribe to Work With Massey & Gail on Broad Range of Litigation, Regulatory Issues
Recent assignment at Department of Justice adds to historic resume; Tribe available across U.S. and with firm's offices in D.C., Chicago
CHICAGO and WASHINGTON, April 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Harvard law professor Laurence H. Tribe, described by the New York Times as "arguably the most famous constitutional scholar and Supreme Court practitioner in the country," will resume serving clients, working on a variety of matters with the boutique commercial law firm of Massey & Gail LLP, the firm announced today.
Tribe, who most recently served in the Obama administration as senior counselor for access to justice, will take on a diverse range of high-level assignments with the firm in addition to his ongoing teaching and scholarship as a University Professor at Harvard, said Massey & Gail founding partner Leonard Gail. Tribe will work with Massey & Gail across the country and its offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
"Larry will be involved in governmental and regulatory issues, senior-level consulting, and, of course, our successful appellate practice," Gail said. "As businesses face increasing regulatory challenges from Washington and state capitals, Larry's experience and expertise will be invaluable assets to the firm and our clients."
Professor Tribe has successfully advised leading business corporations, members of Congress, states and a broad range of other clients. Widely admired and unusually successful as an appellate advocate, he has argued 35 cases in the U.S. Supreme Court and many more in federal and state courts. He has written 115 books and articles, including his treatise, "American Constitutional Law," which since 1950 has been cited more often than any other legal text.
Tribe helped draft the constitutions of South Africa, the Czech Republic and the Marshall Islands. He is one of only 60 professors in the history of Harvard to be designated "university professor," the university's highest academic title. The Northwestern Law Review has written that no one else "in American history has ... simultaneously achieved Tribe's preeminence ... as a practitioner and ... scholar of constitutional law."
"I am excited to work with Massey & Gail precisely because I know of its commitment to providing the highest quality legal service and its impressive record of success," Tribe said. "I have worked extensively with members of the firm in the past, and I look forward to continuing to develop winning strategies for clients."
Founding partner Jonathan Massey said, "Larry is in a league by himself when it comes to designing creative and successful solutions to the most difficult legal problems. At the same time, Larry is a tight fit with the firm's focus, including our regulatory practice of representing clients before governmental agencies. He will be a very valuable addition to that practice, and we are thrilled to be working with him."
