Report to Reveal Whitman's Mysterious Spending
WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As of today, California GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman has spent $53,824 a day since entering the race. This week, when campaign finance reports are made public, we'll finally know what she got for her money.
"Even a Wall Street banker would blush at this kind of reckless spending," said Nathan Daschle, executive director of the Democratic Governors Association. "What's worse is that while Meg Whitman is spending unprecedented levels of money to win this governorship, she's refusing to talk to the press or debate her opponent on the most important issues to Californians. That's not leadership – that's corporate brainwashing."
While we were waiting for Whitman's campaign finance reports to be made public and explain the mystery of how to spend $19 million without airing a single television ad, we added up exactly what $19 million would have bought for California families:
- 500 first-year teachers
- 373 police detectives
- 43,280 premium annual passports to DisneyLand
- 1,371,841 copies of "Personal Finance for Dummies"
Whitman, who continues to refuse to debate or talk to reporters about her positions, is visiting D.C. to promote her book today. She just announced that she deposited another $20 million of her own money into the race – on top of the $19 million she's spent. If only solving California's budget crisis were as simple as writing a check.
