Rescheduled Due To Weather: NYC's Biggest Resource Fair For Young People With Disabilities, New Date: Sat. Feb. 6
INCLUDEnyc's 31st annual youth disability resource fair includes iconic NYC institutions, camps, and year-round afterschool, sports, travel, and health programs
NEW YORK, Jan. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Due to blizzard and travel warnings, INCLUDEnyc's 2016 Summer Fun & More Fair has been rescheduled to Saturday February 6, 11am-3pm, at the Hotel Pennsylvania. This precaution was taken to keep families, staff, and volunteers safe during the predicted storm.
INCLUDEnyc's Summer Fun & More fair is the largest event of its kind, and provides families the chance to speak directly to representatives from camps, recreational, and afterschool programs – as well as sports, travel, and other service providers in the New York City community.
This year INCLUDEnyc (formerly Resources for Children With Special Needs) will welcome such iconic New York City institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Intrepid Museum, the Museum of Natural History, the 92nd St. Y, the Museum Access Consortium, and the Brooklyn Public Library, among nearly 100 other organizations.
The annual fair is a 31-year tradition, and began as the Special Camp Fair. The recent expansion to other programs reflects the beginning of an important shift around inclusion in the city, and growing access for young people and their families who may not have known such programs existed.
"In collaboration with visitors and peers with disabilities, cultural institutions throughout New York City continue to rethink and refine current practices to be more accessible and inclusive," said Barbara Johnson, Manager of Access Programs at the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum. "For example, we offer a continuum of experiences from highly specialized school and family programs to publicly available tools and resources that make a self-guided visit or event more accessible."
The programs represented at Summer Fun & More include opportunities for all ages, and with any disability. The event has become both an annual tradition for many, and a way for thousands of families to connect with useful resources.
Summer Fun & More new date: Saturday, February 6th from 11am–3pm at the Hotel Pennsylvania, 401 Seventh Avenue, 18th Floor, between 32nd and 33rd streets, across from Penn Station.
Spanish, Chinese, and sign language interpreters will be available.
This event is FREE and FULLY ACCESSIBLE.
