NORRIDGE, Ill., Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time since the Harlem Irving Plaza, known as the HIP, was built in 1956, the lateral expansion has added 4.5 square acres to the current mall including a 33,000 square-foot Sports Authority, 46,000-square-foot XSport Fitness (opening Spring 2014), and restaurants including Red Robin, Panera Bread and Chipotle. "At a time when the retail industry is struggling as a whole, the HIP recognized this as an opportunity for growth and satisfying the demands of the community," said Edan Gelt, Corporate Marketing Director for Harlem Irving Companies. "The HIP did substantial research and saw a void in dining and fitness," added Gelt.
With over 640,000 square feet of space before the expansion, the HIP averages $540 in sales per square foot and has had a 98% average occupancy rate for over 30 years.
For more than 50 years, the HIP has been a leading shopping destination for northwest suburban residents offering a myriad of retail options to accommodate the everyday shopping needs of its loyal customers. Now the shopping giant is proud to unveil it's first-ever expansion that offers guests even more diverse retail and dining selections.
Harlem Irving Plaza is located at the intersection of Harlem Avenue, Forest Preserve Drive and Irving Park Road. HIP features 140 stores and specialty food venues and is anchored by Best Buy, Kohl's, Carson Pirie Scott and Target. Regular business hours are 10a.m- 9p.m, Monday through Saturday and 11a.m – 6p.m on Sunday. Visit the HIP online at www.shopthehip.com.
