Retailtainment Comes To MAPIC 2013

PARIS, Oct. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The 360 degree retail shopping experience will feature strongly at MAPIC 2013 with a host of shopping centre entertainment specialists bringing their expertise to the International Retail Property Market.

Organised by Reed MIDEM, MAPIC will be held in Cannes from 13 to 15 November.

"Improving the in-store experience is not just about adding technology devices. It also involves arranging, staging, and promoting the brand experience," says Nathalie Depetro, Director of MAPIC. This is why "retailtainment" – the combination of shopping and entertainment - is constantly growing and will be one of the key topics at the MAPIC Innovation Forum - a pavilion with both an exhibition and conference area in the Palais des Festivals. MAPIC will bring together major market players including KCC Entertainment (Belgium), Forrec (Canada), and BRC Imagination Arts (Netherlands), which design leisure environments that provide unique experiences for consumers.

Among retailers, MAPIC will also offer an opportunity to discover new leisure concepts. The French brand Aviasim, for example, enables customers to pilot a plane between the mountains of Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong, or in St Martin in the Caribbean, using flight simulators. Walltopia (Bulgaria) installs rock-climbing walls in both shopping malls and amusement parks. And Switch Bowling International (Turkey), a bowling specialist, offers comprehensive game spaces and is active internationally. There will be a dedicated space for these cutting-edge retail players in the Palais des Festivals.

As well as providing a comprehensive overview of the market, MAPIC will also feature retailers in the restaurant, ready-to-wear, and cosmetics sectors. They include the French luxury bakery Laduree, famous for its macaroons and derivative products and a first-time attendee at the world's leading retail real estate event. And Laduree just launched "Les Merveilleuses," a make-up and cosmetics collection that is on sale exclusively at three Sephora stores in Paris. These products have previously been sold only in Japan. The Spanish company Llallao has exported its natural yogurt concept, not just across Europe, but also in South America, Singapore, and more recently in the Arabian Peninsula. And from the United States, the ready-to-wear women's clothing brand Kardashian Kollection will be attending MAPIC for the first time, as will the Italian brand Liu Jo, which plans to open 200 stores in China in the next five years via master franchises.

Finally, the "speed matching" sessions will enable delegates to discover an array of innovative retailers and shopping centres, selected by a professional jury. Among them, Madea Concept (France), which offers ski simulators; Rosa Clara, the Spanish retailer specializing in wedding dresses and evening wear; Vapiano (Germany), a restaurant chain; and Chateau D'Ax, the Italian furnishings brand, will give presentations during the seven-minute sessions on November 13-14.
