Retirement Event Turned Fundraiser Brings in More Than $35,000 for Local Housing Ministries

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Cogdell Spencer ERDMAN President and CEO, Frank Spencer turned his retirement party into a fundraising event benefitting charitable organizations in the Charlotte community.

Frank Spencer didn't want a big fuss made over his retirement as President and Chief Executive Officer of Cogdell Spencer Inc., so he created a fundraising event that benefits three local housing ministries with which he has worked during his 15 years leading the publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT).

The event was held last night at Piper Glen Country Club and raised more than $35,000 for Habitat for Humanity, McCreesh Place and The Urban Ministry Center in Charlotte.  Mr. Spencer has supported all three organizations, building homes in Charlotte, leading a mission trip to Malawi for Habitat for Humanity, and volunteering with The Urban Ministry Center's Room in the Inn program.  He was instrumental in the establishment of McCreesh Place, a permanent residence for 64 formerly homeless men in Mecklenburg County.

"The funds generated by this event will help us bring in a Disability Specialist that will serve those with mental health disabilities and help get them off the streets and into permanent housing."

Mullennix worked closely with Mr. Spencer on the establishment of McCreesh Place and is pleased to share event proceeds with that organization, born out of the Urban Ministry Center, and with Habitat for Humanity.
