The festival, hosted by Eva Marcille (Actress, Born Again Virgin), will take place following the second annual 2015 REVOLT Music Conference, closing out the weekend's activities by showcasing the hottest young international film directors. Five directors ̶ Ryan and Sean McIlraith (Flatscreen); Whitney Clinkscales (Hush); Tanner Jarman (High Hopes); Kevin Rios (Made Of Sugar); and Diego Barrios (Mother's Heart) ̶ will compete for the grand prize, awarded by a panel of judges comprised of film industry executives and influencers. Michael B. Jordan, (Actor, upcoming Creed), and Tessa Thompson, (Actress, upcoming Creed), will be there to meet the young filmmakers. The winner of the film festival will be flown to the REVOLT studio in Hollywood for a special REVOLT LIVE tapping, where their film will be aired on REVOLT TV.
"REVOLT is dedicated to providing a platform for young emerging talent and we are delighted to bring our first-ever REVOLT Film Festival to the Overtown community," said REVOLT CEO Keith Clinkscales. "We received over 500 short film submissions from aspiring, talented directors around the world and this partnership allows us to showcase that talent while providing an opportunity for the local community to get involved in this exciting inaugural event."
The festivities, which are open to the public, will kick-off with a young talent poetry hour followed by the film competition. Spike Lee will then provide attendees with a sneak peek of his highly anticipated film, Chiraq, and lead a jarring conversation on gun violence and its effect on the community. The festival will conclude with an intimate reception hosted by the City of Miami Commissioner Keon Hardemon.
"It is with great pleasure that I welcome REVOLT TV to the Overtown community to showcase our rich cultural history and our promising destiny," said City of Miami Commissioner Keon Hardemon. "Through the lens of film and thought provoking discussion, we intend on highlighting our successes and tackling the issues that have a negative effect on the future of our society--our children."
