FAREHAM, England, May 28. 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Jon Andersson of Ricardo UK has received the 2013 SAE/InterRegs Standards & Regulations Award for his role in the development of new emissions control technology now included in the European Union's (EU) latest environmental regulations.

UK-based InterRegs in cooperation with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) helps to promote clean engine technology by annually awarding engineers for ground-breaking work in the global automotive industry. This year's 2013 SAE/InterRegs Standards & Regulations Award recognized Andersson's role in the development of new particle-number methods of emissions control.
InterRegs Managing Director and CEO Rebecca Rubio recently presented the award to Andersson at Ricardo UK's Shoreham Technical Centre.

Andersson, manager of aftertreatment and chemical analyses at Ricardo, was recognized for his contributions to the development of emissions regulations. As a result of his team's work, Ricardo recommendations for new Particulate Matter (PM) and Particle Number (PN) measurement approaches significantly influenced the methods adopted within EU emission regulations. The new procedures have enabled the widespread enforcement of diesel particulate filters on all road diesel engines, leading to large reductions in both PM and PN, as well as the virtual elimination of other harmful pollutants.
