PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y., Sept. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Vanity phone numbers are more effective than their generic, numeric counterparts in searches made from mobile devices, according to a study by phone number marketing service RingBoost. In a test comparing mobile ads running with a numeric phone number versus mobile ads running with a vanity toll-free number RingBoost found that searchers were 33 percent more likely to click on the memorable vanity phone number.
The RingBoost study compared calls made for replacement windows. The test was based on 100,000 total impressions of two Google ads, one featuring vanity toll-free number 877-WINDOWS, the other 877-422-5878. The ads were aimed at users conducting searches on mobile devices.
"The results of our study show the continuing importance of vanity phone numbers to successful marketing in the mobile age," said RingBoost Marketing Director John Borley. "Mobile search is taking off, joining other forms of marketing as the way people are finding and calling companies." A 2013 study by eMarketer found that a larger percentage of sales managers rate telephone calls as "excellent" or "good" – more than any other lead type. What's more, inbound phone calls are 10 – 15 times more likely to lead to sales conversions than inbound web leads, according to call tracking solutions company LogMyCalls.
Mobile search is becoming an increasingly important platform for corporate marketers. The results speak for themselves, vanity phone numbers used in mobile advertising converted 33% more click throughs than a generic phone number in side-by-side testing. In 2013 Google reported that that 61% of mobile searches result in a phone call. Mobile advertising platform xAd says that 52% of all mobile ads result in a phone call.
The RingBoost studies found that the Click Through Rate (CTR) on the ads featuring the vanity toll free number was .28 percent, resulting in 131 clicks. on 46,429 impressions. The CTR for the generic number was .28 percent, yielding 111 clicks from 53,940 impressions.
