Risk Management has long been recognised as a priority for CFOs. With the fluid nature of risk it can't be easily addressed at quarterly or monthly meetings, or incorporated into routine compliance programmes. Earlier this month Nick Araco, President of CFO Alliance, caught up with Outsource Magazine to discuss the trends within finance, the current economic outlook and the challenges CFOs are facing. When asked about the approach of CFOs to risk management Nick replied: "There is heavy emphasis on managing risks in areas around the supply chain of vendor and customer. They are looking at technologies and data capture processes that provide them with an accurate and on-going snapshot that tie directly to both top line and bottom line performance. We are seeing an increased interest in technologies that can capture and manage human capital and/or employee risk areas. And we are also seeing interest in technologies around enterprise risk with regards to cyber security and social media." Risk management is, however, only one of the many challenges faced by CFOs. A 2012 research study, conducted by the CFO Exchange in conjunction with Finance IQ, indicated that 65% of CFOs surveyed are concerned about their current cash management strategy and are looking for ways to improve this in 2012 and 2013. The majority of respondents also recognised financial reporting and compliance as key investment priorities for 2012 and 2013.
