Robert Morris University Poll: By 2-to-1 Margin, Pennsylvanians With a View Say Kane Should Resign
Nearly half those polled say they don't know enough to state an opinion
PITTSBURGH, June 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvanians with an opinion in the matter say by a 2-to-1 margin that Attorney General Kathleen Kane should resign in the wake of controversies swirling around her office, but nearly half of those polled say they still don't know enough to take a position.
Among the 51 percent polled who have formed an opinion on Kane, 33.5 percent said she should resign office, while 17 percent said she should remain. A notable 49.5 percent say they don't know enough to express an opinion.
The findings were part of a statewide poll by Robert Morris University, sponsored by Trib Total Media, which surveyed 529 state residents May 8-16. The survey, which is conducted online, has a margin for error of 4.5 percentage points.
Once a rising star in the Democratic party after she became the first woman and the first Democrat to be elected state attorney general, Kane's standing has plummeted amid revelations of an abandoned criminal investigation and an ongoing criminal investigation into whether she deliberately leaked grand jury information to retaliate against a critic.
A state grand jury in Montgomery County last year recommended that Kane be charged with perjury and obstruction of justice. No charges have yet been filed and the case was referred to the Montgomery County District Attorney.
