NEW YORK, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Roman Oben, former NFL offensive lineman who helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers capture their first Super Bowl victory in January 2003, has been named account executive for CBS Outdoor's New Jersey office. Oben will handle sales accounts for the New Jersey outdoor advertising division and generate new business.
"We're very pleased to welcome Roman to CBS Outdoor," said Dana Wells, president, Outdoor. "He is a gifted account executive who has shown himself adept at client relations and cultivating new relationships. The same qualities that made him a starter for over a decade in the NFL – focus, determination and charisma – will be a great asset to us as we continue to grow our outdoor advertising portfolio."
Oben, who was born in Cameroon, West Africa, moved to the United States when he was 4 years old. He later earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville, where he was recently inducted into U of L's Athletic Hall of Fame. A third-round draft pick by the New York Giants, he played for the NFL while getting his master's degree in public administration from Farleigh Dickinson University in 2001. Throughout Oben's 12-year football career, he started in 135 out of 149 games for the Cleveland Browns, Buccaneers and San Diego Chargers.
Oben is also the founder of the Roman Oben Foundation, an organization he started in 2003 to promote the positive development of youth and families through football, literacy and other community outreach projects. Oben has returned to Cameroon several times to visit schools and an orphanage, providing them with much-needed textbooks and financial assistance. He was also named the 2007 Big Brothers and Big Sisters Man of the Year in recognition of the positive contributions he has made throughout his professional career.
