RMHC® of the New York Tri-State Area funds the largest local college scholarship program in the region
ISELIN, N.J., Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ronald McDonald House Charities of the New York Tri-State Area (RMHC-NYTSA) will award more than $600,000 in scholarships to graduating High School Seniors in 2016. As the sponsor of the largest local college scholarship program in the region, RMHC-NYTSA is committed to supporting outstanding students in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut areas who may face difficulties paying for a higher education. Applications are now available online at www.rmhcnytristate.org. The submission deadline is January 20, 2016.
For nearly three decades, RMHC-NYTSA has helped transform the lives of local students through its college scholarship program. Each year, the non-profit organization awards four-year scholarships to recipients who demonstrate academic achievement, financial need and community involvement. The scholarships are funded by New York Tri-State McDonald's Owner/Operators and public contributions collected through RMHC Donation Boxes.
The RMHC-NYTSA Scholarship program is comprised of the following four individual scholarship programs:
- RMHC®/AAFA - African American Future Achievers Scholarship - Applicants must have at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage
- RMHC®/HACER - Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources - Applicants must have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage
- RMHC®/ASIA - Asian Student Increasing Awareness Scholarship - Applicants must have at least one parent of Asian/Pacific-Islander heritage
- RMHC® Scholars - All students may apply regardless of ethnic heritage. Asian, African American and Hispanic students are welcome to apply for the RMHC Scholars program provided they have not applied for one of the three scholarship programs listed above
"After applying to college, I was really stressed out because I did not know how I was going to afford it," said Mondyna Prevot, a 2014 RMHC scholarship recipient and sophomore at Fredonia State University. "Getting a RMHC scholarship has not only given me the means to pay for college, but I also received a support system and gained a RMHC family."
"RMHC is committed to helping students in financial need to achieve their dreams of obtaining a higher education," said Christopher Perry, Executive Director of RMHC-NYTSA. "Our scholarship looks beyond just academic achievement and recognizes young men and women who have demonstrated a commitment to serving others. By investing in these students, we are empowering them to continue acting as positive agents of change in their communities."
Founded in 1974, RMHC celebrated its 40th anniversary last year by launching a three-year "RMHC Impact Strategy," with a goal to serve one million more children and their families per year. Moving forward, RMHC will be expanding its reach by both creating and growing existing programs, strengthening its global network through staff development and education, and ensuring the financial sustainability of RMHC and its Chapters around the world.
