Landmark CFTC ruling opens door to new categories of swaps tied to company financial results, platform usage, and production metrics
CHICAGO, Oct. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Rothera, the CFTC-regulated event contract market, today announced that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has approved its filing for a new category of swap tied to a key performance indicator (KPI) of a publicly-listed company (Tesla - TSLA). This approval paves the way for Rothera to list additional KPI swaps in future, including financial reporting, platform usage and production metrics. The contract is the first of its kind to be approved by the CFTC and will enable a direct way for institutions and intermediaries to manage risks tied to specific measures of company performance.
On the basis of this approval, Rothera's upcoming corporate KPIs will cover three distinct categories:
- Company Financial Reporting Swaps: Example metrics include earnings, sales, margins and expenses.
- Company Platform Usage Swaps: Example metrics include number of active users, customers, flights and trips.
- Company Production Metric Swaps: Example metrics include units produced and units delivered.
