Russia will Present Three Key Projects at the World Championship on Professional Skills WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017

On the evening of October 14, the opening ceremony of the 44th World Championship in professional skill WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 is going to take place in the United Arab Emirates. 1300 young contestants from 77 countries will compete for medals in 52 competencies in six blocks of professions: construction, IT, art and design, industrial production, services and civilian transport services.

In addition to the competitive program (the Russian national team includes 58 children from 22 regions) and there will be a business championship at the championship site. The Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia) Union will present three key projects for the development of professional competencies in the country.

The FutureSkills Project (future profession) is focused on the staff advanced training for high-tech industries. According to experts' data, up to 65% of current students of lower grades will eventually have professions, which do not even exist now. To guess them, to describe and to test them on the championship grounds is the task of FutureSkills. In addition thereto, the project explores the transformation and "death" of the existing professions, the problem of "extra people."

Two projects on the introduction of the world standards of WorldSkills into Russia's education system will also be presented in the international arena. WorldSkills Academy annually provides retraining of 5000 teachers and masters of industrial training in the system of secondary vocational education. "Programs are built around mastering and improving applied skills, rather than general classical courses," explained WorldSkills Russia CEO Robert Urazov. - In the basis of the educational programs there are the best world practices." Managers - the directors of colleges have also started to pass through the Academy since this year.

Another SkillsPassport educational project or "Competency Passport," which is issued to students following the WorldSkills Demo Exam - the only independent assessment of the practical skills of college and university graduates at the moment in Russia. As a final test, they do not give a theory on the topic, "welded a pipe" or "made a table", but show in practice what they can do with their hands.

A pilot project on introduction of a demonstration exam in colleges and technical schools has been started this year in 26 regions of Russia. Through the tests, in the basis of which there were tasks similar to the championship, nearly 14 thousand students from 242 educational institutions of the country have passed. This practice is planned to eventually spread to the whole of Russia. Many large employers of Russia, as well as business associations, have already recognized the demo-exam as an effective tool for assessing the practical skills and recognize the results thereof. At the moment the negotiations are being held to recognize SkillsPassport abroad.
