DALLAS, May 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Jason DeCuir, Director of Public Affairs for Ryan, a leading global tax services firm, has been appointed to serve on the Task Force on Structural Change in Budget and Tax Policy by Louisiana Speaker of the House, Taylor Barras. The task force was created to continue the budget and tax reform evaluations begun during the 2016 First Extraordinary Session. Its mission is to make recommendations of changes to the state's tax laws in an effort to modernize and enhance the efficiency and fairness of the state's tax policies for individuals and businesses, and to examine the structure and design of the state budget, make recommendations for long-term budgeting changes, and report to the Legislature by September 1, 2016.
Last December, Mr. DeCuir was named to Louisiana Governor-Elect John Bel Edwards's fiscal transition team to help advise him on budgetary issues as he prepared to take office January 11, 2016. In addition, Mr. DeCuir was appointed last August to the Louisiana Sales Tax Streamlining and Modernization Commission where he was asked to make recommendations for how changes in state and local sales tax policy can better position Louisiana for the future in terms of equity and economic competitiveness.
"As an accomplished tax policy expert, Jason DeCuir's wealth of experience will undoubtedly provide valuable understanding for the task force as it evaluates the state's tax laws," said G. Brint Ryan, Chairman and CEO of Ryan. "We are proud that Jason has been asked to play a critical role advocating for fair policies that protect taxpayers in the state of Louisiana."
Prior to joining Ryan, Mr. DeCuir served as Chief of Staff, Assistant Secretary and Executive Counsel for the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR). Prior to departing the LDR, Mr. DeCuir played a prominent role in reforming the structure for tax appeals in the state of Louisiana, increasing the state's COST scorecard from that of a "D-" to a "B." In 2013, Mr. DeCuir was tasked by Governor Jindal to help spearhead his tax reform efforts. In addition to his experience in the public sector with the LDR, Mr. DeCuir has worked in the private sector as a tax attorney in several law firms and was the founder of a consulting firm that advised corporations on governmental matters. Mr. DeCuir has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Howard University, a Master of Business Administration degree from Louisiana Tech University, a Juris Doctor degree and a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the Louisiana State University Paul M.
