SAFE Structure Designs Awarded Contract for Custom CH-47 Wraparound Maintenance Platforms for Minnesota Army National Guard
Helicopter fall protection platforms tailored to the maintenance team's requirements emphasize aircraft access, mobility, and efficient use of hangar space.
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- S.A.F.E. Structure Designs LLC (SAFE) has been awarded a contract to supply a full set of custom CH-47 helicopter wraparound maintenance and fall protection platforms for the Minnesota Army National Guard. The platform configuration incorporates modifications requested by the local maintenance team to address its specific aircraft maintenance requirements.
SAFE Structure Designs has supplied CH-47 support equipment to the U.S. Army for more than a decade. This latest award builds on that experience while reflecting SAFE's commitment to adapting its equipment to the people, aircraft, and working environments it serves. For more info see S.A.F.E. CH47
The Minnesota Army National Guard maintenance team identified requirements specific to its operations. SAFE incorporated those requests into the platform design, aligning the equipment's form, fit, and function with the team's maintenance practices and available hangar space.
The CH-47 wraparound platforms are designed to provide access around the aircraft while keeping the equipment's footprint compact. Easily movable sections allow maintenance teams to position the platforms quickly and configure access for the task at hand. Integrated fall protection supports technicians working at height, while the layout emphasizes efficient movement and access to aircraft maintenance areas.
"Customization is central to how we operate at SAFE," said Johnny Buscema, President and CEO of SAFE Structure Designs. "We don't believe a maintenance team should have to settle for equipment that works just 'OK.' Our goal is to deliver equipment they consider great because it fits their aircraft, their workspace, and the way they perform their jobs. We have built and refined our business model around that commitment, including the ability to produce one-off solutions and incorporate customer-specific modifications without an additional customization charge."

SAFE's approach combines established product designs with the flexibility to accommodate individual customer requirements. Rather than treating a production configuration as fixed, the company works with end users to identify and incorporate changes that improve the equipment's suitability for their operation.
"For the team in Minnesota, that means listening closely to their requirements and adapting our CH-47 platforms accordingly," Buscema added. "The details matter - from how quickly a platform can be moved into position to how much floor space it occupies and how a technician reaches the area being serviced. Those considerations guide our work."
The award continues SAFE's support of Army National Guard aviation maintenance through custom equipment designed to help technicians work safely and efficiently.
