Safeway Voluntarily Recalls Three Safeway Kitchens Items in Cooperation with the Aspen Foods/Koch Poultry Company Recall of Chicken Products Due to Possible Salmonella enteritidis Contamination

PLEASANTON, Calif., July 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In cooperation with the Aspens Foods/Koch Poultry Company Class 1 recall of chicken products that may be contaminated with Salmonella enteritidis, Safeway has voluntarily recalled the following Aspen Foods/Koch Poultry-produced Safeway Kitchens brand products:

Only these products with the above-referenced Best Before dates are subject to the recall. The product is sold from the frozen food area of all Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Carrs and Pak N' Save and Genuardi's stores throughout the United States.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

No injuries or illnesses have been reported or linked to Safeway Kitchens products. However, three cases of Salmonella enteritidis illness have reportedly been linked to other products produced by Aspen Foods/Koch Poultry Company.

Customers who purchased this product should discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
