SINGAPORE, Feb. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Returning to Singapore on Friday, 15 July 2016 at the Shangri-La Hotel, the 9th Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia promises to be a memorable night of celebrating the achievements of the industry and recognising the efforts of seafarers -- the unsung heroes who have contributed to the betterment of the maritime industry.
For the first time, the red carpet awards gala event has chosen two organisations, Sailors' Society and The Mission to Seafarers, as the supported charities, in recognition of the good work that they do in assisting seafarers and their families. 10 per cent of the table sales proceeds from the event will be donated to the charities.
Andrew Williams, Managing Director of Seatrade said: "At Seatrade, we have a long standing tradition of contributing to and giving back to the maritime community. We strongly recognise and believe that as one of the members of the maritime industry, embracing corporate social responsibility is an important part of our business and corporate identity. We are pleased to extend our support to Sailors' Society and The Mission to Seafarers as part of this celebratory occasion."
The call for entries and nominations has begun. Individuals and corporations have till 31 March 2016 to submit their entries and nominations to Seatrade in 11 different competitive award categories. All entries in the 11 competitive award categories will be adjudicated by an independent panel of judges who are all industry stalwarts with decades of industry experience.
The black tie gala event is expected to be attended by over 400 leading industry executives. The event will be guest-hosted by Anita Kapoor, a well-known travel television host and media personality. Anita earned her sea legs young, being born into a maritime family.

About Sailors' Society
Sailors' Society is delighted to be chosen as a beneficiary charity for the Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia 2016. Established in 1818, Sailors' Society is an international maritime charity which aims to transform the lives of seafarers worldwide, through the provision of practical and emotional support, the advancement of maritime education and the relief of poverty and distress. Through a network of port chaplains, and the delivery of grant-giving initiatives, emergency relief projects and support services, Sailors' Society provides welfare support to seafarers, ex-seafarers and families of seafarers at home, in port and at sea.
As we head towards our 200th year of serving seafarers in 2018, we aim to significantly increase our impact on the lives of those in seafaring communities around the world. Therefore we continue to develop and expand our welfare services in places where the need is greatest. Your support and generosity this evening will enable us to continue our vital work supporting seafarers and their families worldwide.
