SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Car Journal and the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show have announced 10 finalists for the prestigious 2017 Green Truck of the Year™ and Commercial Green Car of the Year™ awards, which will be presented in San Antonio on November 10. Finalists for 2017 Green Truck of the Year™ include the Chevrolet Colorado, Ford F-250 Super Duty, GMC Canyon, Honda Ridgeline, and RAM 1500. Vying for 2017 Commercial Green Car of the Year™ are the Ford F-250 Super Duty, Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes-Benz Metris, Nissan Titan XD, and RAM ProMaster City.
Presented annually at the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show, these Green Car Awards honor pickups and light commercial vehicles that raise the bar in environmental performance in a variety of areas including efficiency, emissions reduction, and overall environmental improvement.
"These vehicles do the heavy lifting in everyday life," said Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com editor and publisher Ron Cogan. "They enhance our recreational activities, serve the needs of businesses large and small, and do double-duty for work and play. This year's distinguished finalists do this while achieving greater levels of environmental performance without sacrificing core capabilities expected from these highly-functional vehicles."
The expanding array of 'greener' choices in the light truck field signals a long overdue trend. While passenger cars have improved greatly from advanced powertrains, lightweighting, and an array of efficiency-enhancing technologies for well over a decade, only in recent years have pickups and light commercial vehicles received similar focus. The diversity shown by the finalists in achieving improved environmental performance underscores the 'green' momentum that the pickup and light commercial vehicle field is experiencing.
"For a third straight year, the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show will host the award presentation that pays tribute to our automakers' ability to provide environmentally sound options," said San Antonio Auto Dealers Association president Pam Crail. "With the increasing use of trucks and commercial cars in our fast-flourishing city, the green features and advanced technologies are of utmost importance to our market. We're thrilled the recognition starts here."
