San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine Honored With Regional Award for Excellence in Pain Management
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The City of Hope's Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative (SCCPI) honored three clinicians and one program from San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine for Excellence in Pain Management at an award Gala held on October 9, 2010. The award recognizes outstanding achievements of individuals and programs that improve pain management and provide cancer pain relief.
Honorees include Dr. Holly Yang; Dr. Jeff Stoneberg; Sharon O'Mary, RN, MSN; and the PAL-MED CONNECT Palliative Medicine Resource Hotline operated by The Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice.

Holly Yang, MD is a Clinical Medical Director for San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine and provides care for patients in both inpatient care centers as well as in patients' homes. Dr. Yang is also the Assistant Director of the International Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program at The Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice.
Jeffrey Stoneberg, DO is a Clinical Medical Director for San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine and provides care for patients in both inpatient care centers as well as in patients' homes. Dr. Stoneberg's primary responsibility is overseeing the Inpatient Palliative Medicine Consultative Services at Scripps Mercy Hospital.
Sharon O'Mary, RN, MSN is an Executive Director of Patient Care Services at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine. She oversees hospice home care programs as well as the organization's inpatient care facilities in Hillcrest and Carlsbad.
The PAL-MED CONNECT hotline is a grant-funded hotline, operated by The Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice. PAL-MED CONNECT that provides free expert information and educational resources to healthcare professionals regarding palliative care issues. Physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals can speak directly with a clinician about challenging patient and family care cases. The hotline is a free service made possible by a generous grant from Pacificare/UnitedHealthcare as part of an ongoing commitment dedicated to improving healthcare services for rural and underserved populations. The Institute for Palliative Medicine's Executive Director, Helen McNeal, BBA, oversees the program.
