LOS ANGELES, Feb. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- San Gabriel Valley Water and Power (SGVWP) has outlined the Tres Hermanos Sustainability Project. Anticipated to be located on the Tres Hermanos Ranch Property, this much-needed renewable power project includes solar as well as the critical missing link to most renewable energy projects – storage.
Renewable Energy: The solar panel installation will generate up to 200 megawatts (MW) of power on approximately one-third of the 2,450-acre property. Included in that space will be one of California's largest energy storage facilities (2,500 MW), making the Tres Hermanos Sustainability Project ideal for nearby disadvantaged communities.
Open-Space Preservation: For the first time in over a century, the remainder of the property will be open to the public. SGVWP plans to create a foundation, modeled after the Wrigley foundation for Catalina, to preserve the beauty and ecology of the property. As well, SGVWP would commit to construct trails and interpretive pathways and invest in renewable education opportunities in local schools.
Job Creation: The project is expected to create over 4,000 jobs using union and veteran labor. Agreements are in place with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council regarding prevailing wage, renewable energy apprenticeship programs and veteran employment opportunities.
