LINCOLN, Neb., April 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Hundreds of Vietnam War veterans will take flight Monday for Washington D.C. as part of a day trip organized by Patriotic Productions, a Nebraska-based non-profit. The weekend will kick off with a reception and dinner before the veterans depart Omaha's Eppley Airfield early Monday morning. This is the second year in a row that Sandhills has teamed up with Patriotic Productions to sponsor one of the four commercial airline flights set for the nation's capital.
After arriving at Reagan National Airport, 654 veterans will be guided through visits to a number of sites including: the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Changing of the Guard Ceremony at Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington National Cemetery, the National World War II Memorial, and the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima), with transportation, meals, and other VIP accommodations provided along the way. Back in Nebraska, the spouses and family members of participating veterans will spend the day at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, followed by a luncheon hosted by Nebraska's First Lady Susanne Shore, and a wine tasting and dinner at a local winery and vineyard. The vets will return to Nebraska on flights bound for Lincoln Airport on Monday evening, where they will receive a warm welcome home from friends, family, and members of the community in keeping with the honor flight's tradition.
The 2017 honor flight is the 11th event of its kind for Patriotic Productions (www.PatrioticProductions.org), which has organized flights for nearly 3,000 veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Their mission is to honor members of the United States military through events and projects that recognize the sacrifices made by these Americans and their families. Sponsorships from businesses and individuals extend the reach and impact of these projects.
For Sandhills Publishing, supporting veterans is an ongoing effort. "We are honored to be surrounded by veterans within our families, our company, and our community, and recognizing the sacrifices they have made for our freedoms is especially important," explains Sandhills' Chief Administration Officer Nancy Paasch. "We're committed to giving back to veterans, both in our recruitment efforts and by taking opportunities to partner with organizations like Patriotic Productions to support events and services that extend the important message that we're thankful for their service to our country."
