Sands Bethlehem's St. James Gate Plans Traditional Irish Wake To Celebrate The Life Of The Six-year Old Pub
Loyal Guest's Idea Sparks Weekend-Long Activities to Pay Respects at the Authentic Irish Pub
BETHLEHEM, Pa., Nov. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sands Bethlehem, a Bethlehem, Pa., casino and entertainment destination, announced that St. James Gate Irish Pub and Carvery will close at the end of the month. After six years of providing a place for friends to gather for traditional food, cold beer and live entertainment, the authentic Irish pub will serve its last customers on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, but as a final send-off, there will be a weekend-long "life celebration" of the pub Nov. 27 – 29.
"The entertainment industry is ever-changing, and we strive to listen to our guests and understand what makes Sands Bethlehem a returning destination," said Mark Juliano, President, Sands Bethlehem. "While we are sad to see St. James Gate close, we are excited for new dining options that will be opening, reinforcing Sands Bethlehem as a leading gastronomic destination in the northeast."
St. James Gate has been a guest favorite for the past six years, especially for Phil Bosche and his wife, Marianne, of Allentown, Pa., who visited more than 200 times. Knowing there are other guests like themselves who want to celebrate the pub's lively six years at the resort, Phil reached out to Sands Bethlehem with the idea of a traditional Irish wake to celebrate the contributions of the pub – helping guests have good times and meet good friends.
"St. James Gate has been a go-to destination for my wife and me since 2009," said Bosche. "We are so honored that Sands Bethlehem listened to our idea to have a wake. We are very much looking forward to Nov. 27 when we can gather with the friends we have made over the last six years to give this pub a proper send-off."
Because every good Irish life celebration involves a little partying, and Phil and Marianne remember all the live music from their visits, St. James Gate will feature Celtic favorites for three nights, starting Friday, November 27:
- Friday, November 27, 9 p.m. – midnight: Sean Hennessy is known across North America as one of the best Celtic artists around. Along with his band Blackwater, they bring the love of the music of Ireland to diverse audiences everywhere.
- Saturday, November 28, 9 p.m. – midnight: The Hooligans, one of the best Irish bands in the northeast, bring an infectious excitement to their live performances.
- Sunday, November 29, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.: The Sean Fleming Trio will bring the sounds of Ireland and more when they play a mix of Celtic Rock, Blues, Country and Folk.
Food and drinks will be served aplenty, including customers' favorite dishes from the past years: golden beet & goat cheese salad, Yorkshire pudding with shaved prime rib, corned beef & cabbage, and bangers & mash. Three special cocktails – all $8 – are being created for the weekend, including the Irish whiskey-based "The Danny Boy." Guests can also try a vodka-based "Sweet Kerry Krush Martini" which will feature flavors of pomegranate and kiwi-strawberry as well as the rum-based "Kelly's Clover."
Sands Bethlehem offers a variety of nightlife and casual and fine dining options for guests. Those looking to gather with friends, enjoy libations and listen to music at Sands Bethlehem are encouraged to visit Molten, Vision Bar or Infusion.
