Saudi Arabia Supports All Legitimate Efforts to End Yemen Conflict

WASHINGTON, June 16, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir said today that Saudi Arabia supports all efforts to end the Yemeni crisis in accordance with the GCC Initiative and the outcomes of the National Dialogue in Yemen, and in line with U.N. Security Council Resolution 2216, confirming that the Kingdom strongly rejects any foreign intervention in Yemen without request from the legitimate government.

In a speech today before an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the minister said the Kingdom and its allies have responded to the call of the legitimate government of Yemen to stabilize the country. He said that the conflict shows clear incitement from regional powers trying to intervene in the affairs of other countries to ignite sedition and sectarianism and impose their hegemony and influence.   

"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and nine members of this organization responded to the call of the legitimate President of the Republic of Yemen Abdrabu Mansur Hadi to save Yemen and return the legitimacy through Operation Decisive Storm and Operation Renewal Hope," Minister Al-Jubeir said.

He added, "For the security and stability of Yemen, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz invited all Yemeni political factions seeking to preserve security and stability in Yemen to attend the Riyadh conference in order to reach an agreement. King Salman also directed to provide generous humanitarian aid to the brothers in Yemen."

At the meeting, President Hadi extended his appreciation to King Salman and the leaders of the GCC states for their support of the Yemeni people.

"Operation Decisive Storm and Operation Renewal of Hope were the most prominent titles of solidarity and support for our people and nation. Our Yemeni people will not forget that courageous, noble and sincere stand," said President Hadi.

President Hadi also called for additional humanitarian aid to Yemen. "The sufferings of our people are growing and growing, and they now concern us very much."
