SCAN Health Plan Names Peter Begans Senior Vice President, Government Affairs

LONG BEACH, Calif., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- SCAN Health Plan, the fourth largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage Plan in the United States, has hired Peter Begans to serve as senior vice president of public and government affairs, effective April 5. In this newly created role, Begans will oversee state and federal affairs for the health plan as well as the opening of the organization's first Washington, DC, office. He will report directly to CEO David Schmidt.

Begans comes to SCAN from Medco Health Solutions, in Washington, DC, where he served for eight years as vice president of federal government affairs for that Fortune 50 company.  Immediately prior he worked for a decade as vice president of government relations for Prudential Insurance Company, also in Washington, DC.

Begans graduated magna cum laude from Boston University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Shortly thereafter he worked for six years for ABC News in New York serving as a national political analyst, pollster and writer. His experience in the legislative arena also includes two periods of working in the office of the governor of New Jersey, first as a speechwriter and later as director of communications.
