School Starts With Smiles: Family Giving Tree 2018 Back-to-School Drive Exceeds Goal

MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Family Giving Tree (FGT), a Bay Area nonprofit helping children from low-income families through its annual school backpack and holiday gift drives, exceeded their Back-to-School Drive goal of 37,000. Through generous donations of backpacks and supplies, as well as monetary gifts, FGT distributed 39,960 school supply-filled backpacks to in-need students. 

"For a second year, we were fortunate to partner with NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48. Our program process, combined with the visibility and reach of their Supporting Our Schools campaign made for a very successful Drive. Not only did we both exceed expectations, through their in-depth coverage we were able to educate the broader public about the burgeoning need of students in our communities," said Jennifer Cullenbine, Family Giving Tree CEO.

This strong annual collaboration, combined with the efforts of countless volunteers, corporate partners and energetic supporters, allowed Family Giving Tree to deliver these much-needed backpacks and grade-appropriate schools supplies to K-12 students at 250 schools throughout nine counties in the Greater Bay Area. For most recipients, these donations are the only resources available to them to help ensure they begin the new school year with the tools and confidence needed to succeed.
