Schott NYC to Open Retail Store to Celebrate 100th Anniversary
Designers of the First Motorcycle Jacket to Open Flagship in NYC in October 2013
NEW YORK, Aug. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Schott family announced today that they have entered in to a long-term lease at 236 Elizabeth Street between Prince St and Houston St. The brand last operated a store in New York City in the 1940s. Currently celebrating their 100th Anniversary, the family business has been manufacturing outerwear in the USA since 1913.
The retail store comes after a successful pop-up-shop on Mercer Street last fall. Architect Gregory Okshteyn, with Sudios Go, Inc, will design the 1,800 sq ft space. The store is expected to open in early October of 2013 in conjunction with the brand's 100th Anniversary celebration and retrospective exhibit, which will be held nearby at the Open House Gallery in Soho, October 4-6, 2013.
The store will carry Schott NYC's classic jackets such the iconic Perfecto® motorcycle jacket, designed by Irving Schott in 1928. Schott NYC will also stock the classic wool peacoats, and aviator bomber jackets that the family supplied to the US military since WWII. Completing the offerings will be sweaters, shirts, accessories and jackets in leather, wool, down, denim, canvas and suede.
Chief Operating Officer and fourth generation family member, Jason Schott says, "In 1913, my Great Grandfather began making jackets in the basement of a tenement building in the Lower East Side. Today Schott stores can be found worldwide, but it is my true honor to mark his accomplishments by opening this store less than a mile from his humble beginnings. I am so proud to be able to make and now retail American made jackets as my family has done for 100 years."
About Schott NYC: Founded in 1913 in Manhattan's Lower East Side and now run by the third and fourth generations of the Schott family, Schott NYC produces classic outerwear by hand, out of Union, NJ. Irving Schott, who was the first outerwear designer to use a zipper in a jacket, designed the iconic Perfecto® motorcycle jacket. The first of its kind in 1928, the Perfecto® was a favorite of all American rebels like Marlon Brando, James Dean, The Ramones and Bruce Springsteen. Schott NYC supplied the US military with Naval Peacoats, Parkas and Aviator bomber jackets during World War II. For more information visit www.schottnyc.com.
