Scoot Receives Funding from Elemental Excelerator to Expand Technology and Services for Disadvantaged Communities in San Francisco, California

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Scoot Networks, the original shared electric mobility provider, announced today that they will receive an investment of up to $750,000 from Elemental Excelerator (EEx), a global infrastructure innovation accelerator, to develop their services for low- to moderate-income (LMI) communities. The investment is being made through the accelerator's Equity & Access Track, which helps growth-stage startups deliver place-based, community-driven innovation to California's LMI and disadvantaged communities.

Last month, Scoot won approval from the SFMTA to launch kick scooters as an addition to their shared electric vehicle fleet in San Francisco. With EEx's Equity & Access support, Scoot can expand its mission of 'Electric Vehicles for Everyone' by providing affordable, fast, and carbon-free transportation for a new area of the city - Bayview Hunters Point. This project will pilot several new innovations in Scoot's technology to increase accessibility to their mobility services. The funding will be deployed over project milestones in 2019 that include:

• Expanding Scoot's service territory to include LMI neighborhoods and coupling this with  community managers to work in partnership with local organizations.
• Increasing access for new customers by expanding language offerings in addition to the existing English and Spanish options.
• Implementing a new payment strategy that accommodates alternatives to credit cards, which the company has found is a barrier to usage for customers who do not use credit cards.
