Scott Louden Named Ashford University's Outstanding Alum of the Month

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Scott Louden has been named Ashford University's Outstanding Alum of the Month for September 2017. The Ashford University Outstanding Alum of the Month recognition highlights Ashford success stories and graduates who have used their Ashford education as a springboard to personal and professional achievement.

After earning an associate's degree, Louden joined the Waupun Police Department in Wisconsin to support his community. He knew that if he wanted to advance in the field, he needed to stand out, so he enrolled in Ashford University's Bachelor of Arts in Law Enforcement Administration program on the recommendation of a fellow officer.

"I knew that I would need a bachelor's degree to take on that next promotion," Louden explains. "Basically, it sets you apart from the other people that are going for that position and also lets them know that you are serious about continuous education and self-improvement."

Thanks to the flexibility of the online courses and faculty, Louden was able to fit his studies in around his busy work schedule and graduated in 2013.

"There were deadlines, but they gave you flexibility within the week to do your work," he says. "Also, they were very approachable. When you ask questions about certain material, they got back to you, and they were very knowledgeable on the topics they were teaching."

All of Louden's hard work and education paid off when he was promoted to Police Chief in 2017. He has been commended for his forward-thinking administrative approach, and continues to apply the concepts he learned in his bachelor's program to advance the department.
