Scott Rutherford of UC Irvine Extension Receives Excellence in Leadership Award

IRVINE, Calif., July 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of California, Irvine presented Scott Rutherford, director of marketing and communications at University of California, Irvine Extension, the Staff Assembly "Excellence in Leadership" award at the recently held 2013 Staff Service Award event. Rutherford joins two other University supervisors – Benedicte Shipley, assistant dean, Biological Sciences, and Maura Hofstadter, associate chair, Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care – who were recognized with this award, out of a field of twelve nominees.

The awardees were acknowledged for their outstanding leadership, ability to enhance staff morale, building an enriching work environment, and service as a mentor to benefit the UC Irvine community. Rutherford, who has been leading the marketing efforts of the continuing education arm of the University since 2011, was recognized for his skills as a communicator/collaborator and mentor, commitment to ongoing staff professional development and visionary guidance of the marketing department.

The "Excellence in Leadership" awards are presented annually to UC Irvine supervisors for their outstanding dedication to the university and its educational mission. Recipients are awarded $1,000 in cash and a distinctive, personalized memento.

A native of Newtown, Conn., Rutherford received his undergraduate degree from Emerson College in Boston and his MBA from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass.
