Scottsdale Oncologist Gets Top Award From Cancer Society

Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center researcher honored for cancer research, new treatments

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., June 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Oncologist Daniel Von Hoff, MD, chief scientific officer at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare, will be recognized for his work benefiting cancer patients during the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting June 4-8 in Chicago.

Dr. Von Hoff is receiving the 2010 David A. Karnofsky Memorial Award and Lecture for his impact on treating cancer patients and outstanding achievements in cancer research.

ASCO is the world's leading professional organization representing physicians who treat people with cancer. Recipients of these prestigious awards collectively represent significant strides in cancer treatment and leadership in the oncology community, according to the society.

Dr. Von Hoff is an internationally recognized physician-scientist who has contributed to the development of numerous anticancer agents, including paclitaxel, docetaxel, irinotecan and gemcitabine. He also serves as physician-in-chief for the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) in Phoenix, chief scientific officer of US Oncology, and clinical professor of medicine at The University of Arizona College of Medicine.
