EMERYVILLE, Calif., June 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SCS is now offering third party verification for the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) Check Your Paper program, an online database where corporate and government paper buyers can find products with the lowest environmental impacts. Paper companies that wish to have their products listed in the Check Your Paper database can be verified by SCS.
WWF's Check Your Paper program rates the environmental impacts of paper products, examining forest management, the use of recycled fiber, greenhouse gas emissions, waste, and water pollution from mills. Based on these attributes each paper product is given a single environmental rating and more detailed star ratings for its performance.
"Third party verification allows paper companies in the Check Your Paper program to make the most trustworthy claims about their products' environmental impacts," said Robert J. Hrubes, Senior Vice President of SCS.
Purchasing responsibly produced paper products can help protect the world's forests, endangered species, water resources, climate, and communities that depend on forests. WWF will issue Environmental Paper Awards to environmentally proactive and transparent producers and buyers that use Check Your Paper this fall.
