Seattle Children's Hospital Ranked 5th in U.S. News & World Report 2016-17 Best Children's Hospitals

SEATTLE, June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Seattle Children's Hospital announced today that U.S. News & World Report has ranked Seattle Children's fifth in the nation in its 2016-17 Best Children's Hospitals rankings. Seattle Children's was also named to the Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll, a distinction awarded to hospitals with exceptional performance in three or more pediatric specialties.

U.S. News & World Report ranks pediatric hospitals in 10 specialty areas. Seattle Children's received top rankings for all 10 specialties, with six of Seattle Children's specialty programs ranking in the top 10 and nine programs ranking in the top 20.

The U.S. News Best Children's Hospitals rankings help parents select the best medical care for their children. The rankings highlight the top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology & GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

Hospitals were ranked based on a combination of clinical data, such as patient outcomes and hospital resources, and an annual reputation survey of pediatric specialists who were asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty, without considering location or expense. U.S. News garnered clinical data from a questionnaire sent to 183 pediatric hospitals and 78 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty.

The Honor Roll and rankings will be published in the U.S. News "Best Hospitals 2017" guidebook, which will be available for pre-sale Aug. 1.
