Second Annual $25,000 Honorarium for Exceptional Medical Residents to Accept Nominations in April 2015

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., April 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Medelita® has renewed a commitment to identify top medical residents in the United States who have exhibited leadership in their communities and stand out amongst their resident colleagues. In its inaugural year, "The Right Fit H.E.R.O. Honorarium" saw over 200 nominations and 50 of the top nominations were narrowed to 10 through a series of criteria, including an online voting process that saw over 10,000 votes from colleagues in medicine, friends, and family.  In its second year as lead sponsor, Teflon® Fabric Protector has matched last year's commitment to the Honorarium.

In 2014, Medelita awarded the honorarium to pediatric resident Dr. Kanani Titchen of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital/Nemours-AI DuPont Hospital for Children.  Past Resident Division President of the American Women's Medical Association, Dr. Titchen chose to use a large portion of the Honorarium to contribute to the launch of Physicians Against The Trafficking of Humans (PATH – see www.doc-path.org for more information), an initiative for which she is the co-chair and an strong vocal advocate in an effort to help her colleagues learn how to recognize victims of child sex trafficking.

This year the Honorarium expects to see a sharp increase in the number of nominations, which will begin a week after The National Resident Matching Program® "Match Day" at 12:00pm Eastern Standard Time on April 1st, 2015 via the Honorarium website at www.medelita.com/therightfit. The goal of this year's program is to provide a rare chance for medical residents to share their stories and nominate their peers.
