Second Annual Women in Tech Week Kicks Off in New York City

NEW YORK, Oct. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year, CommonBond and partners are celebrating women in technology and encouraging women to pursue technology careers. CommonBond, a financial technology company that helps lower the cost of student debt in the U.S., today launches the second annual Women in Tech Week, which runs through October 12. Together with founding partners including Betterment, Boxed, and Duolingo, CommonBond created Women in Tech Week to recognize the contributions of women in technology and support the next generation of women leaders.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has praised Women in Tech Week, saying, "Women in Tech Week will… [encourage] the next generation of women leaders to pursue careers in the industry. There are two ways to get involved with Women in Tech Week 2018:

A social media campaign to support the next generation of women in tech:
CommonBond has partnered with Girls Who Code to help fund the next generation of women technologists. CommonBond will donate to Girls Who Code for each social media post that: 

• Answers the question "Why do you support women in tech?"
• Includes hashtag #2018WITW. Proceeds driven from social media posts will fund scholarships for girls in middle and high school. 

A female founders event to encourage and inspire women in tech: 
On October 9, six co-founders from PolicyGenius, Fairygodboss, NextGenVest, and others will share their stories with students and professionals pursuing technology careers at an event in New York City.

"It's fundamentally important for technology companies to create environments that empower every single employee to pursue their professional goals," said Bethany Hill, director of communications at CommonBond.
