ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the fourth year in a row, Second Harvest Heartland is teaming with Bremer Bank to offer parents and their children an opportunity to volunteer together on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a national day of community service in honor of Dr. King. "Bring Your Child to Serve Day" allows Second Harvest Heartland to engage directly with young people to generate awareness around the issue of hunger, promote the value of community service and, ultimately, increase youth volunteerism.

"Minnesotans are known for their generosity in giving back, to support those in need, and to actively participate in social causes. We hope that by providing young people with a meaningful volunteer opportunity through 'Bring Your Child to Serve Day,' we will help foster and grow that value of generosity and influence a life-long desire to support hunger relief," said Rob Zeaske, CEO, Second Harvest Heartland.

"Bring Your Child to Serve Day" is one of numerous events Bremer Bank sponsors each year in collaboration with Second Harvest Heartland to support hunger relief in the community.

Bremer employees and their children will also be among those volunteering at this event.

"Bring Your Child to Serve Day" is taking place from 9:00 a.m.8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 18 at Second Harvest Heartland West, located at 6325 Sandburg Road in Golden Valley, and Second Harvest Heartland East, located at 1140 Gervais Avenue in Maplewood. More than 500 youth ages eight and older and their parents will work in two-hour shifts sorting and packing food to support the 1 in 10 individuals in need of hunger relief in our community. Last year, more than 440 volunteers, their families and community members rolled up their sleeves and packed, sorted and labeled food during the day-long event.
