SEIU ULTCW Encourages Californians to 'Take The Test' to Assess for Diabetes

LOS ANGELES, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- SEIU ULTCW – the United Long Term Care Workers' Union – would like to encourage Californians to participate in the 22nd annual American Diabetes Association Alert Day today by simply taking the free Diabetes Risk Test that helps assess the potential for developing type 2 diabetes.  

The one-day, nationwide "wake-up" call is intended to inform the American public about the seriousness of diabetes and draw attention to the fact that there are currently 23.6 million Americans living with diabetes and an additional 57 million (one in five) are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

"We understand firsthand the importance of this issue since the in-home caregivers and nursing home workers of ULTCW are on the frontlines of providing essential daily care to California's low-income seniors and disabled residents, many of whom either live with diabetes or are at high risk," said Laphonza Butler, President of SEIU ULTCW.  "We would like to encourage all Californians to take a moment to participate in Alert Day by assessing their risk of type 2 diabetes and thank the American Diabetes Association for this important annual event."

According to the American Diabetes Association, studies have shown that type 2 diabetes can be delayed and even prevented by making simple changes in your lifestyle.
